Dolphin Bay Resort

Just a three hour drive from Bangkok, a family friendly haven....

This is not a fancy pants resort but this hotel packs a fabulous family punch! With enough to keep the little ones amused but retaining a chilled out atmosphere. Perfect if you are on a budget or not!

Why we love....

We were thrilled when we managed to book this hotel for our quarantine. Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) is currently compulsory for any travellers entering Thailand. And as you will be inside this hotel room for a long time it is important to choose one that will suit your family!

As we are in the quarantine part of the hotel many of the additional funky touches have to be removed to help keep it as clean and as safe as possible. But our room is still bright and funky.

Keeping us safe....

The hotel has some really handy features to help keep us all safe. The one thing you will become very experienced in is using their official Line App. On this you can check-in, Order all of your meals, order from the snack menu, record your temperature, contact a doctor or just to contact the reception. They also offer a shopping service so you can order anything you couldn't quite stuff into that suitcase! I have already ordered toothpaste and hair conditioner (forgetting how frizzy my hair gets in Asia!).

You can also be rest assured that the air con only services your room so no sharing of air around the hotel.  Really important during these Covid days.

Food is delivered to your door three times a day and there is plenty to choose from to keep you all happy. And for any little picky eaters there are some alternative options (burgers, fish and chips and my daughters favourite chicken fried rice)

The Children will love....

The swimming pools with slides, grassed play area complete with swings, see-saw, slide and climbing activities, toys, children's film room, table football, pool table, kids menu.  The spa will also chill them out as they offer a mini-manicure, mini-pedicure and mini massages!

Unfortunately we cannot use the pool (which looks lovely, and we will return to try it out one day!). We can go to the relaxing out door terrace to get some fresh air, this can be done from the 6th day once you have had a negative covid test result back.

Little Niggles....

It is a 3-hour drive from Bangkok, but it is well worth the extra effort if you like simple, good family fun! There are also small excursions you can do from the Resort but not much going on in the immediate local area. Also take into account it is only the smaller bungalows around the play areas and pools the larger bungalows and villas are at the back of the resort and feel a bit separate.

The beach is over a small road, but this could be a niggle if you had a toddler who constantly made a bee line for it!

Room Tips

You can pay for a roll away bed for the children to sleep on. If children are sharing your room you their breakfast will not be covered in the room rate.  We have found for a family of four it is not much more expensive to have a second room for the children (by the time you have paid for two roll away beds and two children's breakfasts).

The Resort is happy to arrange transportation from or to Bangkok airport or anywhere else in Bangkok, Cha-am, or Hua Hin. Depending on how large your party is and how much luggage you have along, the transportation service they use has a choice of saloon cars/4-door pickups (2-3 seater) or minivan for larger groups. The trip from Bangkok airport takes approx. 3-4 hours, depending on traffic.
