Koh Samui Guide

Koh Samui is a great choice for entertaining the whole pod!

Of course there are less developed islands in Thailand, but Koh Samui still gives you some beautiful beaches and plenty of day trips to do with the littlies. And away from the main tourist areas it still retains a village feel.

Beaches galore!

Koh Samui has a variety of beaches on offer. Take a look at the guide below and choose which suits your family best!

Chaweng– This is the busiest area on Samui and can get very busy and very noisy in the evening. With little ones it may not be the ideal choice (unless you have a couple of little party animals!). But if you have any light sleepers this is a no go!

Bophut – This beach is more laid back and has a bit more of an upmarket feel about it. Less beach hawkers but the sand is coarser and it can be a bit stony underfoot in the sea. Not the best beach for swimming but it is quieter.

Maenam - A much quieter beach. Again coarser sand but a laid back atmosphere. For the family who want to chill out! Chong Mon – This beach is another quieter beach with lovely shallow water, you have to walk out a fair way before you even get to waist height water. It's within easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. For the family who want to splash in the sea and then go for a quick shop.

Lamai – This is a busier beach and has a bit more of a party atmosphere, although not as busy as Chaweng. There are bars and a couple of night clubs as well as some girlie bars so not exactly family friendly. The sea can also be rough here as it is quite exposed and the sand dips into the water quite steeply, again not great for the littlies.

Crystal bay – A small beach with just a couple of hotels and a few restaurants. With white sand and clear shallow water it is a lovely family beach. It gets busier with the day trippers in the day so share nicely.

Tiny Tip: Get to the beach early and then you can take a nap during the hottest part of the day to avoid toddler melt down!

Water slide park

Co Co Splash is on Lamai beach and is a lot of fun for the littlies. It's not a big flashy place, the water slides are made of concrete and it's a bit rustic round the edges. Why recommend this place then? Well, it is perfect for the little ones to have a great day out (older children could become bored quite quickly here). This means it doesn't get overly busy and the children tend to be younger. With the site being fairly compact it means you can keep an eye on your energetic explorer aged children (you can see them on pretty much any slide they are on). There are also life guards stationed at every slide, which is alway reassuring. So slap on your water proof sun cream and have a good ol' splash around!
